About Australia

The Commonweath of Australia is in the continent Oceania. Its mainland along with Tasmania and many other small islands make this the 6th largest country in the world. Australia is the land of extremes as the oldest, flattest and driest continent in the world. However, its ecosystems are megadiverse with rainforests in the northeast, topical savannas in the north, mountains in the southeast and the outback deserts in the center. Australia has 6 states: New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia. The national capital is Canberra. Being the oldest continent, Australian Aboriginals are the most ancient ancestors on the planet. The Aboriginal art and traditional practice remain celebrated and honored by the Australian culture. These traditions include the Walkabouts practiced by the nomadic Aboriginals and Dreamtime spiritual realms of eternity.

Australia has the most poisonous spiders in the world, the Funnel Web and deadliest snake, the Island Saipan. Their cassowary birds became considered the most dangerous bird to man. Many Marsupial species are endemic to Australia, such as, kangaroos, koalas, wombats, wallabies and Tasmanian Devils.

Off the northeast coast of Queensland, Australia in the Coral Sea is the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef system. Protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, coral bleaching is a devastating reality for this reef system. It became affected by the warming waters and pesticides emptying in the oceans from sugar beet plants in Queensland. Also, Australia is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, such as, Bondi, Cable and Whitehaven Beaches.
