Fiji Tivua Island

This tiny, pristine island is a serene escape in the South Pacific, with pure white sand and colorful coral reefs.    I rejuvenated from a day on this island in the crystal, blue waters snorkeling and relaxing on a day trip with Captain Cook Cruises.   So, with nostalgic bliss I share what to expect from a Tivua Island Fiji getaway.

About Fiji

The Fiji archipelago encompasses more than 300 tropical islands, clustered in the South Pacific.  Most of the population lives on the 2 major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.  Furthermore, many populate the capital city, Suva, Nadi or Lautoka.  Nadi is a tourism hub and Lautoka is the center of the sugar-cane industry.   Moreover, its trademark palm-lined beaches, pristine waters and coral reefs attract tourists from all over the world for dreamy getaways.

This tropical paradise, also, has a strong cultural connection with India, as nearly 40% of the population is of Indian descent.  Therefore, throughout the islands there are colorful Hindu temples and Indian dress and customs, interlaced with a Fijian culture.

Additionally, Bula is the most common cultural word used to greet people in Fiji, meaning to wish someone life and good health.

My excursion cruised from Lautoka to the intriguing island.  This island greets you, with the Polynesian breeze saying “BULA…”  Even more, approaching Tivua is the image from a movie or story of a romantic castaway island.  Overall, it seduces you with its palm huts and trees, white sandy beaches and sparkling blue waters.  Once arriving, I walked around the entire circumference of the island to connect with its beauty.  Then I spent hours in the water snorkeling.

The island has a recreational post where visitors get snorkeling or swimming gear.  Also, I joined a guided group throughout the endless coral reefs encircling the island.   Fiji is the soft coral capital of the world. I saw a colorful kaleidoscope of tropical fish, such as, black & white sergeants, angelfish, cobalt blue starfish & sapphire chromis. Hours later, I enjoyed the barbeque and kava to end the day.
