The Pinnacles Desert – Perth Australia Day Trips

Thousands of the weathered limestone pillars are in Western Australia’s Nambung National Park.  This is 200 km northwest of Perth in the Wheatbelt region.  Overall, the pinnacles vary in size and shape among a yellow sand base.  For example, some pinnacles reach as high as 3.5 m. Others are only a meter in height, resembling a tombstone.

The raw material for the limestone Pinnacles originally came from seashells.  Eons later, the shells broke into lime sands blown inland to form dunes.  However, there still remains debates on how these sands formed Pinnacles.  It is fascinating and eerie to see this surreal, lunar landscape.  Also, from my experience the park was not crowded, so this helped for enjoying the unique formations of Mother Nature.
