About Egypt

As a “Cradle of Civilization,” Egypt is a historical treasure trove. It straddles 2 continents (Africa and Asia) via the Sinai Peninsula land bridge. The capital of Egypt is Cairo and largest city is Alexandria. It has one of the longest histories in the world along the Nile Delta dating back to 600 – 400 BCE. Egypt’s famous, archeological monuments include icons, such as, Pyramids of Giza and its Great Sphinx, Valley of the Kings, Memphis, Thebes and Karnak. Below I share my Egypt Travel Guides from my travel experiences.

Egypt gained independence from the British Empire in 1922. Egypt is home to more than 100 million inhabitants that is predominantly Sunni Muslim. Their official language is Arab and currency is the Egyptian Pound. Most Egyptians live near the banks of the Nile River. Egypt is a desert and also known as the driest and sunniest country on Earth. The Mediterranean temperatures are cooler than the rest of the country due to the winds that blow over the coastal areas. The Khamaseen is a hot, dry wind that blows from the desert in the spring and early summer. It also brings dust and sand particles with temperatures that reach up to a blistering 50 degrees C (122 degrees F).
