About Earth Lodge

This boutique eco lodge is much more than a unique accommodation with tree houses and cabanas.  Overall, the Earth Lodge is a wellness resort that you can come for just the day or indulge in an extended stay.  It’s perched on a mountainside with breathtaking views of Antigua and volcanoes on an avocado farm.  So, there is an amazing farm-to-table restaurant with deliciously healthy meals, drinks and smoothies.

There are hiking trails all around and even yoga classes.  Their spa and wellness menu includes Mayan ceremonies, sweat lodges and massages to choose from.   They even have live music on the weekends.  Overall, there’s a quiet still energy that is nourishing and grounding for any stay here.

Getting there:

Earth Lodge provides a daily 15-minute shuttle between Antigua and its location.  However, after the drop-off, the walk to Earth Lodge is steep and moderately strenuous.  They offer porters to carry your baggage, but all visitors must hike to the lodge.  Unfortunately, the lodge is not accessible for those with physical disabilities.

View from my Porch

There are various styles of tree houses and cabanas.  I stayed in the Encino Tree House with a queen bed, a wall of windows looking out into the valley.  Also, I had a hammock on my porch and open-air shower.  I took steep stairs along a dirt path to get down to my tree house.  All the accommodations are private and isolated within their own trees.  Even though this resort has many places to stay, each one feels secluded.

Their mouth-watering menu is a creative culinary delight, offering deliciously healthy choices.  Everything is fresh and organic, with gluten-free options.  Many smoothies and food entrees have avocado ingredients because the lodge is on an avocado farm.  For example, for one of my meals I enjoyed the avocado tacos and avocado/cacao mousse.  They even offer an avocado martini.  However, there are plenty of other fresh vegetarian, herbs, seafood and meat options beyond avocados.

Wellness Services

The wellness services are available for both day visitors and those staying overnight in the accommodations.  Many of the Mayan ceremonies are led by a shaman. There are many opportunities to rejuvenate health and wellness:

Hiking Trails & Guides

Perched up along the mountainside and cloud forest, there are many hiking trails right on site.  However, the lodge will also arrange guides for hikes close by or on one of the local volcanoes, such as, Pacaya and Acatanenago.

Overall…

After spending 24 hours at the Earth Lodge, I became very grounded, calm and overcame my jet lag. It was the best medicine to get me on the right track for a healthy journey in Guatemala. My only regret is that I didn’t stay longer. This wellness resort has all the healthy amenities from fresh, farm-to-table cuisine, spa services and organic accommodations. And the most amazing this is that the prices are reasonable. Do yourself a favor and invest in your health and visit this incredible boutique eco lodge.
