About Colombia
Colombia is in northern South America. It is considered the second highest level of biodiversity in the world, ranking first with more than 1,900 bird species. Brazil has highest biodiversity; however, the country is 7 times larger than Colombia. Overall, Colombia has numerous ecosystems, such as, Amazon rainforest, grasslands, deserts, highlands and Caribbean coastline. The capital and largest city is Bogota with the official language being Spanish. Colombian Peso is the currency. Colombia has diverse climate zones, such as, tropical rainforests, savannas, steppes, deserts and mountain climates. Below are my Colombia Travel Guides from my travels.
Colombian tourism grew exponentially in recent years, after decades of being dangerous due to a civil war. Top places to see include the capital city, Bogota, Cartagena, coffee plantations, swimming with bioluminescent plankton at Isla Mucura. Other places to not miss are Cafetal de la Trinidad for horse-riding, birdwatching in Serranía del Perijá and Salsa Dancing in Cali. Furthermore, wildlife to see include Nuquí on the coast for whale watching from June to October and pink dolphins in the Amazon River. Also, don’t miss The Lost City, a scaled down version of Machu Picchu in Peru and stargazing in Tatacoa Desert.
