Cabo is a fabulous resort city for many families escaping winter cold. With its 350 sunny days a year and dozens of beaches, one thing for sure here: R & R. There’s many water activities and luxury spas for all tastes. As an Acupuncturist-at-Sea, I visited here numerous times and enjoy sharing Cabo San Lucas top attractions.
This Mexican resort city is located at the southern tip of Baja California peninsula. This dry desert terrain is surrounded by the sparkling waters, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, it’s a haven for water activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and fishing. Being a resort area, there’s also great land activities, such as, golfing, horseback riding and indulging in luxury spas.
Cabo San Lucas Top Attractions
Land’s End (El Arco): Located at the southern end of Cabo San Lucas, these rock formations including the iconic archway, are the inspiration for many postcards and photos. Carved by the rough winds and waters of the southern peninsula, they make a romantic spot for sunsets.
There’s even a Playa del Amor or Lover’s Beach here. However, you can only reach it by water taxi or boat and there are few amenities there. But oh, the view is amazing, especially at sunset. Swimmers need to use great caution on the Pacific side of Lands End, as the surf is very rough. Also, the flies are pesky here, so bring some bug repellant.
Beaches: Besides Lover’s Beach mentioned above, there are dozens of beaches in Cabo. Each has its own pros and cons, attracting different types of beachgoers. One things a given, you can count on sunshine, as Cabo averages 350 sunny days a year!
Playa El Medano is the most popular beach and, therefore, it gets crowded. It’s a 2-mile stretch of seaside restaurants, bars and colorful umbrella chairs along the white sandy beach. There are numerous water activities here, such as, beach volleyball, parasailing, boogie boarding, jet skiing and kayaking. Chileno Beach’s shallow waters and coral reefs make it the best for snorkeling. You can see a variety of marine life here, such as, sea turtles, sea fans, tropical fish and even manta rays.
Many people come to Cabo from Dec – April, just to see the Humpback and Gray whales.
Whale Watching: From Dec. – April the Humpback and Gray whales are in Cabo to breed and give birth to calves. Then, they migrate to colder waters in summer to feed. From May to Sept. they feed on plankton in Washington state, British Columbia and Alaska.
It’s important to seek out eco-friendly companies that promote sustainable and responsible whale watching, like the company, Whale Watch Cabo. Even more, they will drop a hydrophone in the water, so you hear the haunting whale sounds. And they have a marine biologist serve as a guide to give you the most informed whale watching experience. Often, during whale watching you will also see other marine life, like dolphins.
San José del Cabo: South of the airport and referred to as the Old Town, this is a quieter scene in comparison to Cabo San Lucas. It’s a more charming Mexican culture with less partying and crowds. The Plaza Mijares has the church, town hall, numerous restaurants, art galleries and shops. Nearby beaches are the Playa Palmilla and Playa Santa Maria.
Overall, Cabo San Lucas Top Attractions
One thing that made such an impression on me about Cabo is that it is so upbeat. Everyone is there to have fun and enjoy the sun and beaches. You can’t help but get cheered up here, especially if you’re escaping cold weather. After 2020, I sure could use some time in Cabo!
