About Norway
The pristine Kingdom of Norway is renowned for its awesome 1,000 fjords. Glaciers carved the rugged coastline of Norway millions of years ago, creating some of the world’s most incredible fjords. For example, ten of the most famous are the following: Geirangerfjord, Aurlandsfjord, Nærøyfjord, Lysefjord, Sognefjord, Hardangerfjord, Trollfjord, Romsdalsfjord and Nordfjord. Another unique destination is Nordkapp, the northernmost point in Norway. Norway is one of my favorite destinations in the world with the unique and dramatic fjords. So, I enjoy sharing my Norway Travel Guides below for practical and inspirational information for planning.
Norway is the western region of the Scandinavian peninsula, with the Gulf Stream flowing along the west coast. The Gulf Stream is warm water that flows from the Caribbean and therefore, keeps the coastal waters warmer than other areas at the same latitude and ice free in the winter months. Also, Svalbard or Spitsbergen is a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. Oslo is the capital of Norway and, also, the venue for the Nobel Peace Prize awards and museum. Another historic town is Bergen, the second largest in Norway with the busiest port on the west coast.
Norway is also known for the engineering marvels of their railway routes. For example, Flam Railway is one of the top tourist attractions in Norway because of its steep gradient and scenic nature. Also, the Oslo to Bergen train line is one of the most scenic routes connecting Norway’s 2 most visited cities. Norway is not part of the European Union (EU) with their currency as the Norwegian Krone. The total population of Norway is approximately 5.2 million. And their 2 official languages are Norwegian and North Sami.
